    The program is called Black Boys of Distinction. Dozens of young men are at Wofford College for the next seven weeks. At risk youths, ages 8 -17 come to play sports, learn about computers and science, and life through role models.

    One year after launching the Black Boys of Distinction mentorship program to change the negative statistics of black male youth, Pastor Tommy Quick says we are organizing the Project I Can 2 Symposium to continue to raise awareness about the importance of community-wide participation to help save black boys. It will take place at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, July 31 and August 1, 2009 with the theme, "Creating Positive Futures for Black Boys."

  • Founder of BBOD to speak at SCASA Leadership Institute

    March, 2009

    Founder of Black Boys of Distinction, Pastor Tommy Quick, has been asked to present at the South Carolina Association of School Administrators in June of 2009 at their annual Summer Leadership Institute. Pastor Quick will be speaking on the topic of 'Engaging Black Males in the 21st Century'. Pastor Quick will have the unique opportunity to speak to school administrators and leaders from across the state of South Carolina.

  • Park Hills Elementary partners with BBOD

    February, 2008

    Park Hills Elementary partnered with BBOD to help facilitate the Aban Aya Youth Project as part of a grant seeking to assist Title I schools and at-risk youth. BBOD hosts two sessions a week during school hours using the Aban Aya curriculum as well as incorporating some of the BBOD modules.

  • Cleveland Elementary partners with BBOD

    November 1, 2008

    Cleveland Elementary and principal, Dr. Audrey Grant have teamed up with Black Boys of Distinction to offer an after-school program. BBOD will host after-school sessions twice a week using methodologies targeted at 4th and 5th graders.

  • BBOD Inaugurates Saturday Academy

    September 20, 2008

    Black Boys of Distinction hosted its first Saturday academy at the Promised Land Ministries facilities today. Over 25 boys, their parents were in attendance as well as a strong showing of male mentors who have committed to volunteer their time and support, were on-hand to ensure a successful start. Pastor Tommy Quick, founder of Promised Land Community Development Corporation and BBOD gave opening remarks and stressed the importance of parent commitment and student attendance. BBOD instructors gave the parents an overview of how the Saturday academy would function and what was expected of the boys.

Enroll a Child

BBOD is accepting applications to enroll young boys from the ages of 9 to 15. If you have a child that you wish to enroll please download the Student Enrollment Application below as well as the Parent Commitment Form. In BBOD, we expect parents to participate and be active in the program to help ensure the success of the boys.
